Vegetarian Pastas

CR Way members are some of the healthiest people on the planet. One way we get that way is by eating healthy foods. So it’s a big deal when we discover a whole new category of foods that we want to include in our diet.

Enter, organic vegetarian pastas: They are delicious, nutrient-dense, low-GI, and easy to digest. And the bean pastas are perfect for people who have gluten and other carbohydrate sensitivies.

The bean pasta manufacturers make a big deal of their high protein content. But if we thought that their protein were easily absorbed, we wouldn’t be interested in using them. Lucky for us: Bean protein is poorly absorbed because it is all tied into the fiber and starches of the beans.

The pastas make creating healthful recipes easy. Our basic pasta recipe includes: garlic, red onion, and ginger or cardamom. This morning’s recipe started by bringing

  • the recommended amount of water on the package to a boil and cooking
  • pasta for four servings of the black bean penne.

We added 

  • 1 medium chopped red onion (240 g)
  • 20 peeled garlic cloves (60 g) 
  • 1 tablespoon of cardamom

After that mixture boiled for 4 minutes - we added

  • mushrooms - frozen package
  • broccoli - frozen package

and cooked it for another 4 minutes and, voilà, a sumptuous breakfast!

When we bought these pastas locally, we saw the price per box run beween $6 to $12. Now that we are buying the bean pastas in bulk from Bentilia, we pay way less. We also appreciate that a purchase of a Bentilia pasta through the CR Way store results in a significant donation to CR Way research.

More foods will continue to be added to the store’s offerings, but the interest in the vegetable pastas is so strong, we couldn’t wait and decided to offer them here now.
